EDWARD A. HANNA, Esq. Attorney Profile

(Former Special Attorney, United States Department of Justice)
Washington, D.C.

Attorney Edward A. Hanna served as a state prosecutor, in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, and Chief of the D.A.'s "Major Crimes Tactical Unit"; and as a Special Federal Prosecutor, with the U.S. Department of Justice, both in Washington, D.C. and with the Department's Southeast Regional Office, the Miami Strike Force; and in public service for well in excess of twenty (20) years. He is now retired from the United States Department of Justice, Criminal Division/Organized Crime and Racketeering Section. He is the winner of the prestigious United States Attorney General's "Special Achievement Award" for three (3) separate cases while stationed at the Miami Strike Force, and is the recipient of numerous other awards and commendations from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the U.S. Customs Service, and the United States Secret Service. He is a graduate of the United States Attorney General's Trial Advocate Program (1977/while stationed with the Special Operations Unit, Staff Headquarters, at "Main Justice" in Washington, D.C.). He received his B.A. in History-Archaeology from Ithaca College (1970), including study at the Queen Victoria University of Manchester in Manchester, England (1969-1970). He received his Juris Doctor from Villanova University, Garey Hall School of Law (1973).

During the Gerald Ford Presidency, and during the Jimmy Carter Presidency, Mr. Hanna served with the Criminal Division/Internal Security Section at "Main Justice" Headquarters in Washington, D.C., dealing with various U.S. National Security issues including Espionage, "Terrorism" and Sabotage of Government Installations. He served as an attorney/analyst in the examination and prosecution of organizations subversive to the interests of the United States; administration of the Foreign Agents Registration Act; intelligence/covert operations training, including handling of "Corona" ("spy" satellite) materials, at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Headquarters at Langley, VA. During the Reagan Administration, he served with the Criminal Division/Organized Crime and Racketeering Section, both in Washington, D.C. and in South Florida with the Justice Department's "Miami Strike Force", where he prosecuted a number of cases of great national importance (including international narcotics cases, labor racketeering, and the RICO-prosecution of the International Longshoreman's Association); and where he was the "first (Special Federal Prosecutor) to obtain a jury determination of forfeiture in this district under either the Continuing Criminal Enterprise Statute or the RICO Statute."* [*From: Attorney General's Special Achievement Award].

Since entering private practice, Mr. Hanna has developed a sophisticated practice covering a broad spectrum of state and Federal Civil Litigation issues, (including numerous Contract and Fraud cases, and the Federal Civil RICO Statute), involving corporations and individuals. His Criminal practice includes spirited and insightful defense and guidance to clients who wish to "cooperate" with the Department of Justice, FBI, or other enforcement agencies. Matters of great concern, such as Predatory Lending, Mortgage Fraud, Bank Fraud, Mail Fraud, Wire Fraud, Equity Theft & Equity Skimming, are addressed with insight, as are Real Estate Negotiations and Closings. Since entering private practice, Mr. Hanna has continued to serve as a Special Legal Consultant to various state and Federal Government agencies.
